The main goal for the MWELA Pre-Apprenticeship is to provide
minorities, women and disadvantaged with the education and training
required to obtain entrance into the Building Trades, opening the doors
to new opportunities for them to work for majority contractors. As
such, this year MWELA has added a paid job training initiative to the
program. By partnering with participating majority contractors, the
program participants will have the opportunity to work with majority
contractors on their project sites and receive an hourly wage and
benefits which are subsidized in part by the MWELA organization.
In order to prepare the program participants for
employment on a construction site, MWELA has a shop component to our
program. The shop training focuses on giving the participants the
mobile skills required for the carpentry field. Additionally,
participants are provided the opportunity to work on a variety of
carpentry projects built within the school’s workshop.
